UBlock Origin is not an "ad blocker", it's a wide-spectrum content blocker with CPU and memory efficiency as a primary feature. As a rebuttal, uBlock Origins developer mentions that his extension does not incur any significant performance penalty even when having as many as 140,000 static filters to enforce. But the main reason I switched was because uBlock does a better job at blocking adds in general and uses less system resources.
